Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is the science of developing approximate numerical solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations over a discretised flow field. The theory of a continuity-constant algorithm for incompressible, two-dimensional flow is presented. Algorithm performance is benchmarked for a thermal cavity and step-wall diffuser. Validation is examined for a full-size room and reasonable qualitative agreement is achieved. The results confirm the existence of an unsteady flow, since a steady solution is not reached after 50 seconds. The experimental smoke visualisation flow field gives an indication of this unsteady flow.
