The human race forthe most part, even today, relies on natural ventilation for much thermal environmentalcomfort, and minimizes discomfort by common sense application of ventilation principles;Obviously, if complete comfort could be attained by ventilation there would be no need forair conditioning. By expenditure of energy--but usually less energy than required for airconditioning--mechanical ventilation can supplement or replace natural ventilation, and cansometimes come surprisingly close to complete comfort.
