This column discusses disruptive change occurred to the telecommunications industry, and the data center IT computing industry as a result of the Internet and introduction of TCP/IP. Convergence of these industries took hold in the 2000s and today it is difficult to tell them apart. TC 9.9 emerged in the midst of these disruptive changes to harmonize the industry toward unified approaches enabling advancement without "breaking the bubble" at the facility level.
