New experimental data relating to flow patterns during condensation inside a horizontal tube are reported for refrigerants R-12 and R-22. Several existing flow pattern maps are tested against more than 350 visual observations. The data indicate that Baker’s map does not satisfactorily characterize the two-phase flow patterns during condensation. The present results seem to be best correlated on the flow map of the authors (Tandon, Varma, and Gupta 1982).
