Laboratory fume hoods provide safety to researchers in conducting their work. Support systems are required to introduce and pretreat the makeup air that feeds these exhaust devices. The size of these support systems can be significantly reduced in new facilities when the diversity of uses is considered. Likewise, knowledge of operating diversity can provide the justification for, retrofitting existing facilities to operate more efficiently. Recent work documents diversity experience in laboratory fume hood use.
