Performance characteristics of a small beverage cooler equipped with thermoelectric refrigeration units have been studied experimentally. The coefficient of performance of the system is calculated for the cases of forced-air cooling and evaporative cooling of the heat rejection side by use of an open water flow. The COP of the system demonstrated some fluctuations at the beginning before it leveled off. At constant thermal load, increasing the supply voltage i.e. power input, decreased the COP of the refrigerator indicating that the extra supplied power will be used to heat up the thermoelectric element. The achieved minimum cold-side surface temperature was 1°C (1.8°F). Also the highest COP calculated for the system was 1.23 for the case of 4 cans and a supply voltage of 4 V. The results are within the reported range of COP for water-cooled thermoelectric refrigeration systems.
