This paper discusses softl:ning of insulating materials in an unaged state only. For testing and discussion purposes the hermetic environment is broken into three major elements; (1) refrigerant (2) oil (3) thermal. Some limited quantitative component softening testing has been conducted on the effects of refrigerant, oil and heat simultaneously; however, the evaluation of the three environmental elements simultaneously is generally accomplished in a qualitative sense under systems testing.
