There are many technologies on the market to improve the performance of the components of the building envelope, thus improving the overall performance of a house. If existing technology were used to retrofit an older house (envelope and other house systems), energy savings of up to 40% could be achieved. Such retrofits carried out across the housing sector could result in savings of $21 billion per year.
