This column describes how cooling coils can be selected tomaximize energy efficiency while minimizing the additional first cost thatmight accrue from the selection. The included cooling coil study was designedto demonstrate the advantages of investigating different values for thestandard parameters of chilled water coil selection. The two strategies ofreducing coil face velocity and increasing the robustness of the cooling coilhave been shown the potential to provide some energy efficiency improvementswithout necessarily accruing significant additional first cost or spacerequirements.
