In a cross-cultural study involving Korean and Western dress, the thermal insulation values of traditional Korean garments and ensembles (male-winter, male-summer, female-winter, and female-summer) were measured using an electrically heated, life-sized copper manikin. Wearing these ensembles and Western ensembles with the same insulation values, 16 Korean subjects (male and female) participated in the thermal comfort evaluation. The environmental conditions during the two-hour exposures were selected to produce thermal comfort, based on the insulation value of the ensembles. The clo values measured for Korean garments and ensembles contribute to the growing data base of clo values for different types of clothing.
