A common misconception holds that the increased efficiency of modern air-conditioning equipment has resulted in reduced moisture removal capacity. This article corrects such myths. It explains how changes in the past 30 years have resulted in a mismatch between the dehumidification effectiveness of the typical unitary air conditioner and that of the typical building load. Recovery ventilation systems can address this by allowing standard unitary packaged cooling equipment to closely match building dehumidification performance, while conserving energy and reducing peak demand.
