Developed for use by the US Army, the Cooling Load Demand Management Program (CLDMP) identifies demand management options (DMOs) used to reduce the cooling component of the electrical peak demand at Army installations. The program consists of four quantitative analysis modules, the production system with knowledge bases and working memory (facts), an engineering/economic module, and output modules. The analysis modules serve as the input/analysis devices for load, rate structure, weather, and installation-specific data. The modules analyse these data and create data and fact files for later use in the program. The production system is an expert system shell that provides a sophisticated environment for inference and control of the knowledge bases and working memory. The production system identifies and recommends appropriate DMOs. Two separate knowledge bases permit examination at both the installation and individual building/system levels. The engineering/economic module generates specific evaluations for each recommendation. Two modules provide graphic and text output. The modules and submodules are accessed through a menu to simplify user operation. While developed for the Army, the use of this package is appropriate for any large installations with a significant cooling-driven summer peak.
