Students learn that interoperability covers a wide range of possible options, and how to simplify interoperability by defining specific areas where interoperability is required. Also discussed are the basic components of any multi-vendor or multi-discipline BACnet® control system, how different systems can be merged using BACnet®, and how BACnet® facilitates the integration of older systems with BACnet®-based systems. The course does not discuss specific manufacturers or alternatives to BACnet® or BACnet® specification writing.
