This Recommendation specifies the data link layer for high-speed fibre-based in-premises (G.fin) transceivers operating at 2.5 Gbit/s for in home and small and medium enterprise (SME) applications. DLL functionalities such as basic framing, dynamic time allocation, registration, power management, physical layer management channel, and authentication are specified.

This Recommendation leverages some technical design of [ITU-T G.984.3] by adapting to the use cases and requirements of in-premises networks, with technical changes such as 2.5G symmetric rate support, wireless local area network (WLAN) coordination, fibre link management, and encryption support.

NOTE – 2.5G is the name used throughout this Recommendation for the nominal line rate of 2.48832 Gbit/s (see Table 7-4 of [ITU-T G.9941]).
