A university campus is a large energy consumer. Therefore, it is important to implement energy-saving measures that reflect the characteristic of each campus building. This paper focuses on Osaka University, a large university that has a total floor area of approximately 930000 m2 (10 million ft2). By classifying the university facilities into three categories (liberal arts facilities, science facilities, and large-scale facilities), the energy consumption characteristic of each category becomes clear. This paper examines the energy consumption of each category and then proposes an energy-saving strategy for Osaka University. The information obtained can be applied to other energy-consuming building systems.
