Annually approximately 6000-6500 km (3800-4000 miles) of preinsulated underground heating mains in the dimensions 3/4-40" are installed in Europe. The paper describes the present state of these preinsulated pipe systems that can be used for temperatures up to 130°C (266°F) continuous operating temperature, and 140°C (284°F) during short peak load situations. The paper describes the actual preinsulated pipe systems, meaning that all necessary components are prefabricated so that the only work to be done on job site is the jointing of the single components.
