It has been said that one month with paper and pencil may save ten months in the laboratory. The better our understanding of physical processes and the more sophisticated our computational facilities, the truer this statement becomes.
The primary function of mathematical modeling is to save time and money in experimentation and development: time, because the execution of calculations are much, much faster than the execution of experiments in the laboratory; money, because a computer can be rented at the cost of only a few hundred dollars per hour, which makes the cost of a computer study very low indeed, compared to the cost of a typical experiment.
The work to be discussed presently is concerned with the mathematical model of a rotary-vane compressor (referred to as RVC).
