This is the final report of Phase One of a three--phased research project, ASHRAE - RP-57, "Determination of the Effect of Thermal Environment on Productivity and Learning in Commerical, Industrial, and School Activities."

The objectives of Phase One of this three-phased project were to explore the feasibility and develop plans for at least one laboratory study of learning and two field studies of productivity, one commercial and one industrial, to be conducted in/Phase Two.

This report describes and discusses the background and our approach to the problem of the thermal environment, productivity, and learning. It summarizes our activities during Phase One and presents detailed plans, schedules, and cost structures for one learning study and one study of clerical activities under differing thermal conditions.
