This paper describes various instruments used for determining the solar-optical characteristics of shading materials. It discusses their capabilities, limitations, and proper use. The effect of drapery fabric properties on solar heat gain is studied. A system for classification of drapery fabrics is suggested.
Appendix I provides equations and charts for rapid determination of shading coefficients for glass and drapery combinations.
