"Packaged" pump assemblies are becoming increasingly popular in hydronic systems and as domestic pressure boosters. A packaged pump includes all the required flow and electrical components prepiped, wired, and tested so that the installer only needs to hook up controls, power, suction, and discharge piping. In attempting to meet the limitations of overall size, flow components are often installed quite close together, perhaps, introducing additional head losses due to component interrelationships. A typical pump package was used as an example to compare calculated and measured head loss across the package as a whole. Although the differences are not large in absolute terms, they illustrate some important points about applying pumps in the packaged mode.
