Cold-climate variable-capacity air-source heat pumps (CCHPs) have the potential to significantly reduce energy use in theCanadian residential sector. In this study, a set of generic performance adjustment curves are developed and presented, withthe aim of better capturing the heating performance of CCHPs in building simulation versus using conventional air-sourceheat pump (ASHP) curves. Proposed CCHP performance curves are generated using a statistical approach applied to a largedatabase containing key information on the performance of CCHPs. Results show that using conventional ASHP curvesoverestimate the energy use of CCHPs by as much as 30%, and using the proposed set of curves can more accurately estimatethe annual energy performance of CCHPs.
