A two-part plan is proposed for making high quality computational algorithms available to the membership. (1) An algorithm, written in a recognized algorithmic language, is first presented as a refereed technical or symposium paper, the theory appearing in the existing literature or in a companion paper. (2) A new publication is created. “The Collected Algorithms of ASHRAE,” a loose-leaf document, is updated semiannually with either new algorithms or certifications, translations, and remarks concerning existing algorithms. In this way, ASHRAE will set a standard of excellence in the important area of computational HVAC algorithms. The paper also suggests standards, submission procedures, and review procedures for algorithms.
