Purpose and scope

This manual has been specifically written for structural concrete applications. Procedures applicable to light commercial and residential slab-on-ground (SOG) construction are covered in a separate PTI document titled Construction and Maintenance Procedures Manual for Post-Tensioned Slabs-on-Ground. Although similarities may exist between the two documents, specifics for each application are covered in the separate documents.

There are PTI and ACI specifications that address unbonded single strand tendons. The PTI M10.2 document specifies materials, fabrication, and field procedures. ACI 423.7 specifies materials and fabrication and ACI 301 specifies the construction execution.

It should be understood that while the details and recommendations presented in this manual are intended to represent safe and generally accepted industry practice, the practices of individual companies on specific items (in particular, procedures for operation of stressing equipment, anchorage systems, details of encapsulation, etc.) may vary from the details and recommendations presented herein. In the event of any conflict between this manual and the Contract Documents or written instructions from the PT supplier, the Contract Documents govern unless modified by addenda, RFI, or other document change procedure.

Note: This document provides numerical examples for 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) diameter strand. Refer to the PT installation drawings for strand size for specific projects.
