The Australian Rolling Stock Standard AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles sets industry agreed good practice core requirements for the safe design, construction, testing, maintenance, decommissioning and modifications of road rail vehicles. It provides a minimum list of Network Registration requirements, and offers industry a means of reducing currently unacceptable risks relating to road rail vehicles. The standard provides load cases for the design of road rail vehicles including for: Road rail transition; Longitudinal load whilst driving forward and backwards on rail; Lateral and vertical loading whilst driving on rail. It gives conditions for the evaluation of dynamic vehicle behaviour including: Lateral instability; Base Ride accelerations; Minimum negotiable rail radius; Vehicle to rail guidance equipment clearance; Transition curve negotiation. The AS 7502 Road Rail Vehicles standard was developed using RISSB rolling stock standards as a baseline.
