The Australian Infrastructure Standard AS 7640.1:2012 Rail management General describes requirements for rail for design, construction, commissioning, inspection, monitoring, maintenance and decommissioning of rail track infrastructure in Australia. This standard covers management of both new, existing, and serviceable rails, and applies to the management of rails in the permanent works of existing, upgraded, and new main line tracks and branch lines as classified in AS 7630 Track classification. Tram tracks, cane railway and monorail networks are not included.
