This specification covers an aircraft-quality, low alloy steel in the form of sheet, strip, and plate.
These products have been used typically for heat treated parts, which may be welded during fabrication, requiring through-hardening to high strength levels, and which may be used at operational stress levels approaching the yield strength. Steel may be notch sensitive when heat treated above 200 ksi (1379 MPa) yield strength; consequently, caution should be exercised in this respect.
