SJI Technical Digest 12 PDF

The Steel Joist Institute’s third edition of Technical Digest 12 gives the reader information regarding the application and usage of steel joists and joist girders. Technical Digest 12 covers the evaluation of existing steel joists and joist girders to carry additional loads not accounted for in their original design. Technical Digest 12 also addresses situations where the configuration and/or the original geometry of the steel joists or joist girders need to be modified in the field.

The latest updates to Technical Digest 12 include a new section called “Reinforcing Joists Adjacent to a Wall or Other Obstruction” and a new section called “Welding Requirements for Reinforcement.” In addition, examples illustrating weld requirements at panel points and shear flow considerations have been included. Many examples have been updated to include grade 50 ksi reinforcement instead of A36.

Additionally, Example 2.3 has been updated because the labels in Figure 2.5 have been reversed, and a few figures that contained typos have been corrected.
