This paper identifies torque tool standards and the national and international organizations that write them. Fundamental specifications and operational features are listed and qualified for various torque tool configurations. Because operator training and awareness are principle factors in the successful use of torque tools, typical measurement errors are discussed and correction factors for using accessory tools are explained. Torque wrench certification and torque instrument calibration equipment are also presented.
