The automotive industry has led the application of 3D laser systems for cutting and, more recently, for welding components for new vehicle development. The drive for reduced time-to-market as a means of reducing development costs and of increasing competitive position in international markets is stimulating growing application of 3D laser processing. This paper provides a review of the applications, benefits, and technical and financial considerations of 3D laser processing systems.
