This paper addresses the use of thermoplastic polyurethanes in the adhesive industry. A description of TPU chemistry is provided, followed by a brief history of the material's use and a discussion of its utility in more novel technologies and applications. Benefits and limitations are presented, as well as physical properties of certain TPU materials available for use in new, non-solvent-based adhesive technologies. Specific formulations particularly well suited for use as components in hot melt adhesives are also presented and discussed.
