As the 21st century nears, the assembly line is undergoing a subtle change with the advent of the multi-tasking work-cell. This paper describes the theory and practice of particular types of material dispensing work-cells and the economic advantanges for each. The material dispensing work-cells are used in conjunction with other work-cells for quick and accurate manual, semi-automated, and automated dispensing of materials on a wide variety of products ranging from gear assemblies, electronic connectors to automotive transmission cases.
