Many of the drying problems encountered in the paper and textile industries are similar. More energy is used for moisture removal and drying than in any other part of the production process. Both industries use two basic methods of moisture removal: mechanical and heating. Mechanical forms of moisture removal include various forms of vacuum extractors, suction boxes, and press rolls, as well as combinations where vacuum extraction is combined with the pressing of the material.
