When quenching aluminum parts there are several very important issues to consider. The type of material quenched (sheet metal or heavy gauge parts more than ? thick), the load configuration, and the quenchants used for the quench. In addition, the hoist speed agitation rate and temperature play into the equation for crating a product with the required properties after the heat treat. This paper will specifically discuss the problems associated with the design and application of flow patterns for quenching of aluminum parts in water.
