This paper presents the basic principles involved with cell manufacturing operations requiring the application of induction heating for heat treating shafts and large diameter pins which require relatively deep case hardness. The topics covered, include the basic theories of induction heating, thermal heat transfer principals and metallurgical aspects associated with the process. Also presented are induction heating calculation guidelines with a sample worksheet for preparing evaluation studies of process equipment requirements and also calculating production capabilities.
