As engineering educators we should be preparing our students for a more collaborative, integrative working environment and for life-long learning. A unique hands-on learning environment, the Manufacturing and Design (MaD) Laboratory, that enables teams of students to integrated their experiences of design and manufacturing has been established at the University of Queensland. It offers a technical and organizational framework in which students synthesize a practical understanding of the product development process based on the principles of concurrent engineering.
