This paper deals with the fast development of manufacturing technology, the variety of new demands and the emphasized use of computers, all of which together shape manufacturing education. Different roles of the university and industry as well as new dilemmas induced are analyzed when considering knowledge transfer to industrial implementations. The manufacturing process model described has been developed to coordinate education, research and cooperation between university and industry in Sweden.
