In 1986, as a response to the needs for more efficient education for engineers, a new master's program was opened in the Instituto Tecnologico de Celaya. The new program required the students to spend one year in industry and it was based on an emphasis in functional design. As a continuation of this combined industry/school master's program to train engineers in design, it is proposed to evolve to include manufacturing through the concept of complete design.
