This paper presents some of the results of a recent comparative study of manufacturing education in Japan and the United States and some of the differences in the way Japan and the U.S. view their roles for academia and industry. The author's objective is to further motivate educators to partner with industry in an effort to continue to improve the relevancy of education for manufacturing.
