The impact upon the environment is an increasingly important question to the design engineer, hence the need for educators to include this in the engineering curriculum. This paper describes the problem of how to integrate environmental issues, or ECM, into manufacturing engineering and was addressed in recent lectures at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Delft Technical University and also at Queen's University Mechanical Engineering Department.
