Mechanical machining, electrodischarge machining (EDM) and casting are widely used in the automotive industry for manufacturing a wide range of parts made of a variety of different metal alloys. However, manual final surface finishing of these parts has become a major bottleneck in their cost-effective production. This paper introduces an effective surface finishing process to remove the edge burrs and the damaged surface layer and defects on the parts using a charge modulated electrochemical machining (CM-ECM) process.
