The major components used in formulating a coating are: resins, pigments, solvents, and additives. Knowledge of the composition of these components and the health hazards associated with each substance is necessary to evaluate the risk relative to the application of the coating. Adverse health effects may occur from over-exposure to one or more of these substances, therefore, a careful assessment of exposure potential must be included in the risk estimates.
