This paper describes BASF's efforts to enhance the exterior durability and mechanical properties of the flexible clearcoat. It will compare a prototype carbamate-based clearcoat to the conventional one- and two-component clearcoats now used for flexible, plastic, automotive parts. Performance improvements afforded by the use of novel carbamate-based clearcoats over conventional one- and two-component clearcoats will be summarized.
