The use of prepainted metal to replace post-painting is often inhibited because of the focus on fastening and joining. Numerous welding, mechanical fastening (with and without fasteners) and structural adhesive bonding techniques have been used successfully for this purpose. Mechanical clinching and structural adhesive bonding used individually or together offer an opportunity for high reliability and low-cost joints in prepainted metal.
