EXAMPLES OF MATCHED DIE CBC TOOLING FOR PROTOTYPE HIGH-PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE COMPRESSION, INJECTION AND TRANSFER MOLDS IS PRESENTED, INCLUDING A SYSTEM WHICH USES A METAL SURFACE LAYER WHICH GREATLY IMPROVES THE ABRASION RESISTANCE AND DURABILITY OF THE MOLDING SURFACE. FINALLY, VERY HIGH-TEMPERATURE CBC TOOLING SYSTEMS, WHICH CAN BE USED TO FORM METAL AND GLASS MATRIX COMPOSITES AT TEMPERATURES UP TO 1800 DEGREES F IS EXAMINED.
