THE CHALLENGES WITH APPLYING SUPERPLASTIC- DIFFUSION BONDING (SPF/DB) TECHNOLOGIES TO THE FABRICATION OF HOLLOW-TITANIUM ROTATING COMPONENTS FOR AIRCRAFT TURBINE ENGINES ARE EXAMINED. THE CRITICAL IMPORTANCE OF CONCURRENT ENGINEERING IS EMPHASIZED. PROCESS-CONTROL FACTORS ARE ALSO EXAMINED, INCLUDING THINNING PREDICTION AND CONTROL, BOND INTEGRITY ASSURANCE, IMPACT OF SPF/DB PROCESSING ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES, AND DESIGN VERSUS CAST ISSUES.
