A manufacturer of flameless ration heaters (FRH's), a product used to heat the field rations given to U.S. military personnel, is forced to examine their manufacturing process for potential cost savings in hopes of remaining competitive. Precision metering of the materials used to form the FRH's can reduce costs significantly. However, the precision metering device requires a different forming and baking process to efficiently produce the product. This unique product and the hazardous nature of the components contained in the FRH severely limits the choice of heating devices. The heating device chosen and the testing done to design the new oven are the focus of this paper.
