This paper presents a comparison between an improved upper bound technique, a modified slab method and the finite element method for analysis of flow in streamlined extrusion dies. Extrusion die is considered as the heart of the extrusion process. Streamlined or shaped dies are finding wide spread application in the composite, powder and polymer processing industry. Extensive theoretical and experimental research has been carried out in the past to improve die design and the flow of material through it. The most widely used technique for flow analysis has been the finite element technique, slab method and the upper bound technique.
