HIGH-PRESSURE CUTTING FLUID, APPLIED DIRECTLY TO THE CUTTING EDGE OF THE TOOL, HAS USUALLY PROVIDED A BENEFIT OVER NORMAL FLOOD DELIVERY. THE USE OF AN ULTRA-HIGH PRESSURE (5,000 PSI) JET, DELIVERED TO THE CUTTING EDGE OF A TURNING INSERT, DELIVERS VIRTUALLY COMPLETE CHIP CONTROL, REGARDLESS OF THE ALLOY MACHINED. THE BLENDING OF LIQUID CARBON DIOXIDE WITH WATER BASE CUTTING FLUID PROVIDES A CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURE TO THE MIXTURE OF LIQUID AND GAS, DELIVERED AT BALLISTIC VELOCITY TO THE CUTTING EDGE. THE LOW-TEMPERATURE-HIGH-ENERGY JET NOT ONLY BREAKS THE CHIPS INTO SMALL MANAGEABLE CURLS, BUT REMOVES SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF HEAT FROM THE CUTTING ZONE. SINCE HEAT IS THE PRIMARY CONTRIBUTOR TO TOOL WEAR, THE CRYOGENIC INFLUENCE IS LONGER TOOL LIFE AND/OR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY.
