THIS PAPER EXAMINES THE PERFORMANCE AND WEAR BEHAVIOR OF MANUFACTURING DIAMOND AND CBN ABRASIVES HAVING A WIDE RANGE IN TOUGHNESS CHARACTERISTICS IN SURFACE GRINDING A TITANIUM ALLOY (TI-6AL-4V) WITH A RESIN BONDED WHEEL. TESTS WERE DONE WITH A VITRIFIED BONDED SILICON CARBIDE WHEEL FOR COMPARISON. RESULTS SHOW THAT MEDIUM TOUGH DIAMOND TYPE ABRASIVES CAN GRIND TITANIUM ALLOYS MORE EFFICIENTLY THAN CBN OR SILICON CARBIDE.
