THE PERFORMANCE OF A DIAMOND WHEEL CAN BE IMPROVED BY OPTIMIZING ABRASIVE GRITS AS WELL AS THE BOND MATERIAL. THUS DIAMOND GRITS ARE OFTEN NICKEL-COATED FOR RESIN BOND USES. A RECENTLY DEVELOPED COATING PROCESS ALLOWS A SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED SURFACE AREA OF THE METALLIC DEPOSIT, SO THE COATED GRITS, WHEN USED IN A RESIN BOND WHEEL, WILL EXHIBIT A HIGHER G-RATION THAN MOST OF THE PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET AT ONLY A LITTLE HIGHER GRINDING FORCE. FOUR GRADES OF DIAMOND OF DIFFERENT FRIABILITY LEVELS WERE NICKEL-COATED BY BOTH THIS AND STANDARD TECHNIQUE, EMBEDDED IN RESIN TO PREPARE WHEELS, AND COMPARATIVELY TESTED IN A GRINDING OF TUNGSTEN CARBIDE WORK TO DEMONSTRATE THE SUPERIORITY OF THE NEW COATING.
